Myrtle Beach Bike Week
May 8th, 2009 through May 17th, 2009
Myrtle Beach Bike Week has been held since 1940, and draws an ever increasing number of bikers, as well as non-bikers just out to watch the fun. The weather in Myrtle Beach does help, as typically very mild for a early to mid-May event. One of the 'Big Four', the Myrtle Beach Bike Week draws an estimated crowd of 300,000.
Myrtle Beach seems to draw motorcycles of all kinds throughout the year, with at least three events large enough to meet the standards of this site. And why not? Myrtle Beach has much to offer, even outside the realm of the motorcycle. Miles of pristine beaches, numerous tourist attractions right in the heart of the city, including four attractions from Ripley, and friendly southern folks welcoming the crowd.
Typical Events at Myrtle Beach Bike Week
Myrtle Beach Bike Week includes numerous events every year. As one of the 'Big Four', some of the best custom motorcycle builders, vendors, and manufacturers attend. A partial list of events is provided here, but I highly recommend going to the official website, listed below, to get a detailed listing as well as a schedule.
- Motocross racing
- Several custom motorcycle shows
- Poker Runs
- Live music throughout the event, at numerous locations
- Vendors - for about anything a biker would want
- Manufacturer displays
While at Myrtle Beach Bike Week, don't miss these nearby attractions
Many people spend their entire vacation enjoying the events and comradery offered during Myrtle Beach Bike Week. But, if you want to just get away from the hustle and bustle that is Myrtle Beach during the rally, here is a short list of some of some of the attractions nearby:
- Take a safari style jeep tour, where they offer pickup at many Myrtle Beach resorts, and enjoy three and a half hours visiting nearby areas, including a spanish style castle. Visit the Carolina Safari website for more information.
- Hobcaw Barony, over 17,000 acres of wildlife refuge, and at one time home to several rice plantations, is approximately 30 minutes south
- Wilmington, NC, with its historic downtown district, several houses open for tour, and the USS North Carolina battleship is about an hour and a half north

Motorcycle related laws to know while attending Myrtle Beach Bike Week
One of the common complaints when returning from a major motorcycle rally is about the law being rampant, and giving tickets out for every minor infraction. While we cannot stop all tickets from being given, some of those tickets are due to you, the attendee, not being aware of some of the standard laws in the state. Below are some of the most common laws for South Carolina. Be aware, though, that many rally locations have recently passed local ordinances that may be more strict than the state law. For example, a new noise ordinance was passed in Myrtle Beach just in time for the 2005 Fall Rally. I make every effort to keep this information up to date, but you may want to research them more just prior to going to an event, just in case they have changed.
